I love kakanin! I always eat different kinds of it. One of my favorites would be sumang kamoteng kahoy. While growing up as a child, me and my older sisters were trained by my grandma on how to get kamoteng kahoy from the roots itself. We had a small lot in the province (Leyte) and we grew cacao trees and other plants there. That's how life in the province - abundant of different food that you can just pick and eat!
Now, fast forward here in the province again (in Pampanga), we don't make our own sumang kamoteng kahoy, we buy them! But the good thing is, it's really affordable that almost everyone can buy them!
Sumang Kamoteng Kahoy! |
Suman is a type of rice cake that originated from the Philippines. It came from the root crop - kamote which was steamed and cooked in coconut milk. It is wrapped in banana leaves afterwards.
my share of suman :) |
We got this suman from the usual 'suking tagalako' during early morning or around siesta time. How cheap is this? You can buy it for only P4.00!!! How cool is that?! The good thing about it is that, it will give you full stomach after one to two pieces. But since I really have a huge appetite for different food, I can eat three to four of this. (Sssshhh! This is just a secret!) ;) *wink*

REVIEW and VERDICT:
This is great to eat during morning as your breakfast or as a snack during afternoon. It is a major source of carbohydrates that's why usually it is the staple food of people who are diet conscious. One serving of this is enough to fill your hunger.
I would love to try more variety of suman or different types of food related to kamoteng kahoy. But I am sure of one thing, this is my favorite version of suman so far!
Share your suman experience! Thanks for reading.
